(note: Cognitive Systems Inc. ceased trading in 1996, ReMind may still be available from other suppliers)
ReMind, produced my Cognitive Systems Inc., was developed with support from the US DARPA programme. It was originally developed for the Macintosh and has since been ported to MS Windows and UNIX platforms. It is available as a C library for embedding in other applications, and as an interactive development environment. Unfortunately, Cognitive Systems ceased trading in 1996. However, ReMind Version 2.0 is under development at the Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC. It is not clear though when the new version will be released or who may retail it. Information on ReMind 1.1 has been included because it is still widely used and has been a very influential tool and will continue to influence the functionality and look and feel of CBR tools.
ReMind supports nearest neighbor, inductive, knowledge guided inductive and template retrieval. It provides adaptation through a adaptation formulae, can import data from database records and has a modest interface builder.
A full review and feature comparison of the tools is given in the recent book Applying Case-Based Reasoning - techniques for enterprise systems.
Trouble shooting, complex diagnosis, data mining and other CBR applications.
Development on Macintosh, Windows 3.x, 95, NT, available as a C library for embedding.
In Europe contact Intelligent Applications who may still supply and support ReMind.
